Guidelines for Revising eBay Auction Listings

Depending on the type of eBay listing that you have created, and whether or not that listing current has any bids, you may be able to revise some of the details contained within it. eBay does not charge any fee for allowing changes to be made to qualifying listings, but there could be a charge if the change involves adding any of the optional special features or increasing the asking price for the item. Contact eBay if you need help, but you can also read over the following guidelines before speaking with a customer service agent.

The general changes that can be made are very straightforward. In most cases, you can make changes to the title of the listing, add extra photos, change existing photos, and add any of the optional listing upgrades whenever you wish. For a fixed-price listing that offers buyers the chance to ‘Buy It Now’, you can decrease the price. This can also be done on an auction-style listing that does not yet have any bids and currently has twelve or more hours remaining until the listing ends.

In most cases, you will not be able to make any changes to the length of time that the listing will run or the listing format. For example, you will not be able to modify a fixed price listing and turn it into an auction. There are special circumstances though, and it is best to contact eBay customer service if you have any questions. Furthermore, you can consider simply cancelling the listing altogether if you need to make changes and the system is not allowing you to complete them.

To make changes to one of your listing, go to ‘My eBay’ and then click on ‘Active Selling’. Select the item that you wish to revise from the list that is shown. There will be a drop-down menu that provides additional options. Click on the ‘Revise’ link to start the process of making the desired changes to your listing. The changes that you will be able to make will always be based upon the listing type. Keep in mind that not all features are going to be available in all of the provided listing tools.

On auction-style listings, most changes can still be made if there are no bids and there are more than 12-hours remaining. Some changes can still be made when less than this amount of time remains. The same generally applies to fixed price listings. Once you list an item as fixed price, yu will need to cancel and relist if you wish to make it an auction. If more than two hours have passed after submitting a fixed price item, you will not be able to make any changes to the duration of the listing.

On ‘Good ‘Til Cancelled’ fixed price listings, there are some limitations with regards to what you can revise. You cannot make any changes to the duration of this type of listing. In addition, you cannot take a standard fixed price listing or auction and turn them into a ‘Good ‘Til Cancelled’ style listing. For more information, contact eBay and speak with a sales agent.
