The Sky TV apps for Apple and Android devices allow customers to control their viewing experience from virtually anywhere. The apps allow customers to set shows to record, browse channels and recommendations, programmes, and even use a device as a remote control. The following information is intended to help customers download, set up, and use these apps. However, if you find that you need additional information or assistance, you can always call the Sky contact number and speak with one of their many customer service agents.

Sky+ App for iPhone and iPad

Sky customers located in the UK or Ireland can download the app by way of the App Store. At this time, iOS 5 or higher is required. Once the app has been downloaded, it can be utilized to access the TV Guide and to complete Remote Record requests so long as the device is connected to the broadband. You are going to need your Sky iD in order to start using the Sky+ app on your Apple device. If for some reason you’ve forgotten your Sky iD, you will need to use the recovery tool online or contact Sky and have an agent help you to retrieve this information.

Sky+ App for Android

Customers located in the United Kingdom and Ireland can download the Android version of the app through Google Play. An OS version of 2.2 or higher is going to be required. Once you have completed the download, the app will allow you to access the TV Guide and to complete Remote Record requests using your device, provided that is it connected to either a 3G or 4G or wireless connection. To start using the app, you will need to know your Sky iD. Contact the Sky customer service department or use the recovery tool online if you have forgotten this information.

Activating Enhanced Features

Customers will need to have a compatible Sky+HD box that includes the Sky Guide in order to be able to use the enhanced app features. In addition to needing a specific box, you will also need to make sure that the box is connected to the broadband either through a broadband router or hard-wired through an Ethernet cable. After you have made sure that the box is connected to the broadband and completed the app download, the next step will be to connect your device to the same broadband network that the box is connected to.

What the Sky+ app will do at this point is to start searching for any boxes that are connected to your broadband network and the display the listings on your Planner when the boxes are located. Customers can download selected On Demand programming to their box and then use the device as a replacement for their remote control. Note that these options are only going to be available when the device is connected to the same broadband network as the Sky box(es). Once they are synced, the TV Guide and Remote Record functions can be used outside the home.

Accessing the Planner

Once you have downloaded and installed the app and connected with your Sky+HD box, the following steps can be used to access the Planner. First, you will need to open the app on your device and navigate to the Sky menu. From there, you will tap on the Planner icon. The app will search for the box and then shown the content of the Planner. In order to view your recordings in chronological order, tap the tab twice. As mentioned above, your device will need to be on the same Wi-Fi connection as your box for this feature to work properly.

Remote Control Feature

When signed into the app, you will see an icon that shows a remote control on the navigation bar. When you tap this icon or one of the channel icons within the TV Guide, you will be able to use your device as a working remote. The provided ‘Show Gesture Guide’ provides instructions, but you can also call the Sky phone number for help if you are not able to get the remote control feature to work properly.

Recording Settings

If you would like to manage your recording settings, the first step will be to open the app and click on the Sky logo. From there, you should proceed to settings and then click on the Remote Record icon. You will then be asked to enter your Sky iD and your password. If you prefer, you can also manage these settings online after signing into your Sky account.

Favourite Channels

Your favourites channels are specific to the Sky+ app. They will be directly connected to your Sky iD. Note that your favourites will not be the same as any favourites that have been set on your TV. To add or remove favourites, or to re-order them, you will first need to open the app and then go to the menu. Next, click on ‘Settings’ and then on the tab to edit channels. You can choose either add or remove and select a genre. One tap will add a channel to your list. Two taps will remove it. Click on ‘Edit’ to see a complete list of your favourites, after which you can drag them up or down to change their order in the list.

It is also possible to view your favourites from within the TV Guide. The process is essentially the same. Open the app and proceed to the menu. Next, click on the TV Guide icon and then on ‘Favourites’. You can manage your list from within that area.

Cancel Record Requests

The cancellation of a Remote Record or Series Link request will have to be completed either through your Sky box or through the Sky app, when your device is connected to the box. If your device is not connected to your box, you will not be able to make changes without using your remote control. If you need to switch between boxes, you can open the app and go to the menu and then the settings. Open the list of Sky+HD boxes and make your selection from that list. Once the selection is made, you can manage the schedule for that specific box. Contact Sky customer service if you need help with cancelling record requests.
